“Don’t spend your precious time asking ‘Why isn’t the world a better place?’ It will only be time wasted. The question to ask is ‘How can I make it better?’ To that there is an answer.”
“Not getting what you want either means you don’t want it enough, or you have been dealing too long with the price you have to pay.”

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. – 1 Timothy 6:9-10 (KJV)

SOMEONE`S TRUE STORY
Abdul migrated to UK in the late 1980’s. Even though Abdul was married at the time, he did not take his wife Sarah with him. While he was in the UK, he married a Caucasian woman and they had two children, but he never divorced Sarah. Every time Abdul went to Sierra Leone to visit, he spent his time with her, and when he built his house, he moved her into it.
Some years later, he and the white woman divorced, and he subsequently took Sarah to the UK. After arriving in the country, Sarah became gravely ill, but she survived the ailment. She then conceived, but had a miscarriage and became sick again; a year or later, the same thing happened. And each time, the doctors could not diagnose her ailment; but she always recovered though. Around the time that these misfortunes were taking place, Vehicles Abdul was shipping to Sierra Leone were not being purchased at the same rapid pace as the previous years.
After the two miscarriages, and news of his vehicles not being sold fast enough, Abdul decided to go to Sierra Leone for a visit. While there, his mother advised him to see a certain “special” pastor. When Abdul saw the pastor, he of course, bared his soul to him. This so called man of God then told Abdul that, all the troubles that he and his wife are having, are a result of his mother-in-law’s witchcraft. In other words, he claimed that Sarah`s mother living in Sierra Leone is a witch, and that she was somehow causing their misfortunes. So he, the “man of God”, advised Abdul to tell Sarah never to divulge any information about their lives to her mother.
Abdul returned to the UK and relayed the message to his wife, which she obliged to comply. On the pastor’s advise, Sarah did not tell her mother about her pregnancy when she conceived for the third time. This time though, she was able to carry the pregnancy to full term and delivered a baby boy. After she gave birth, she called her mother and informed her, which infuriated Abdul. The baby then started to get sick which is normal for babies in most cases when they are young. Abdul immediately blamed the baby’s illness on his mother-in-law, and scolded his wife for ever telling her mother that she had given birth. Sarah couldn’t take the stress of having a sick baby, so she too, began to get seriously ill; but once again, the doctors could not diagnose her illness.
Abdul was convinced that all of these problems were being caused by his mother-in-law, so he came up with a scheme to take his wife back to Sierra Leone and dissolve their marriage. And that is exactly what he did! He somehow managed to take Sarah to Sierra Leone finally and left her there. He also told Sarah`s family everything the pastor had been telling him; so Sarah blamed her mother for the disintegration of her marriage, and is now not on speaking terms with her mother. So you see, not only did this man of God brainwash Abdul to believe his mother in law was a witch, he also ruined his marriage of over twenty years, and has also caused a rift between Sarah and her mother. Personally, I believe that, there is a perfectly logical explanation for everything that happened; but was the “man of God” in place to convince Abdul into believing otherwise. Sad, very sad!

RELIGION, CULTURE AND SUPERSTITION
Sonsiama
dont you think cultural taboo has its effect on the changed generation? cus it has always been a taboo even to tell elders the truth when it comes down to that sir
and those are little things we ignore even at home
12:17Sonsiama
so it leaves us with the impression that its not right to talk or tell about personal feelings
12:21Syl
Yes it is a factor but must not continue to be a deterrent. The world is dynamic, so we must adapt to its process of change which is constant for growth in every human….If you ignore it, it is like fighting against the waves which you cannot stop at its ebb. With our experiences, we must enforce change by motivation not by fighting or forcing someone else’s to adapt…It is a process….The most powerful weapon in life is dialogue, not the stick, knife or guns…..
12:22Sonsiama
true and tnx for the wise words.
i takes time to make a soft/hard effective change but its end result is always the aim

There are negative forces on this earth. We do not all have those eyes to be able to see them; and that does not negate their existence. Just as God exists so does the devil to throw several temptation sin our way. Most a times some people claim they don’t believe in such things. But if you are lucky not to have experienced it; you are likely to cherish that claim. The world is full of both positive and negative forces that are all the creations of God. Adam and Eve through devilish temptations lost the Paradise that was theirs; and so must MAN continue to be tempted until doomsday. Sometimes, people say in public that they don’t believe in JUJU or Superstition; and behind the scenes they do all sorts of things seeking any kind of solution to solve their problems when the push come to shove. Even when they do such things they always demonstrate so much love as religious believers just to deceive and take that natural instinct that everybody has in perceiving that something is going wrong in life. But the bottom line is that those forces exist; and if you have never experienced them, you will say no to their existence. Life is generally both physical and spiritual; and the Good Lord helps those who help themselves.
The first story involves a London based Sierra Leonean emigrant who was apparently doing well in life until misfortune came his way. According to his friends, this particular guy came to London as an illegal emigrant and like most Sierra Leonean was making an effort to get some kind of order and legitimacy in his life, which he did manage to realize quite successfully after hard work and playing by the rules.
And it was not long before employment did bring him financial stability, thus making it possible for him to travel back home and pursue a business endeavour. Whilst in London he did manage to build three storey buildings, set up a restaurant and even bought a huge land, which he intended to farm, but since he couldn’t be in Sierra Leone on a daily basis to oversee the daily management of his empire, he instructed his mother to do it on his behalf and this the mother did wholeheartedly. Most of his close friends were very proud of his accomplishments and loved how he spoke so esteem of his mother. The mother would keep his son updated on what was going on the Sierra Leone market and what her son needed to do to get some piece of the action, which he did and became more successful business wise.
But as some time went by and on things were bound to change and how, this guy got fired from his job not because of anything he had wrongfully done, but because the company which he was working for was moving out of the country. Anyway he got a hefty amount of money from the company, when he was made redundant and invested it in his business back home in Sierra Leone. Now exactly six months after being made redundant and this guy was still at home unemployed, six months became a year and a year became two years and this guy just hit rock bottom.
He didn’t tell his mother about his condition in London and so the phone calls from Sierra Leonean kept coming, inquiring about why he was not sending them this and that, things simply took turn for the worse and so on the advise of a friend he went to see a pastor from one of those spiritual churches. Now after an intense conversation and prayer with the pastor, he was informed by the pastor that his very own mother was behind his misfortune.
Now according to one of his close friends, this guy went and bought a return plane ticket to Sierra Leone were he confronted his mother with this allegation and when the mother denied, he simply out of anger slapped his mother on her face, pulled her wig from off her head and started thrashing her so severely that had the police not arrived on time, the mother would’ve died and all because somebody said that his dear was a witch and he believed it.
This second story is about a brother who brought his sister over from Sierra Leone and married her for reasons we all know. Now both of them were living in the same city, but after they divorced the sister moved out of the city to start a new life of her own, where she met a Sierra Leonean went guy immediately after. Her brother also wanted to get married and settle down, but he couldn’t find anyone despite his good looks and money.
And so in his quest for an answer he met one of those juju men from India, who told him that his inability to find a suitable woman for himself was because his sister had married him in spirit. According to the sister her brother paid her an unexpected visit one Saturday evening and confronted her with this allegation, which she called ridiculous and blatantly denied, but her brother kept on talking and screaming at her until violence erupted from both sides with him injuring his sister severely.
The neighbours who overheard them fighting called the police, her brother was charged with assault and is now in prison.

THESE SO CALLED SPIRITUAL MEN AND WOMEN ARE DESTROYING HOMES AND FAMILIES RATHER THAN REPAIRING PEOPLES LIVES. THEY ARE ALL OVER THE WORLD TELLING PEOPLE WHAT THEY ALSO WANT TO HEAR. YOU CAN’T BELIEVE THE THINGS THEY DO. THEY FORCE THEIR WAY EVEN TO THE TOP. THEY CLAIM THEY KNOW EVERYBODY AND EVERYBODY KNOWS THEM.
IS IT BECAUSE OF HOW BE PERCEIVED WHAT IS RELIGION, JUJU OR SUPERSTITION, THE REASON FOR OUR VULNERABILITY?
LOVE IS CONTAGIOUS, YOU CAN EASILY CATCH ITS COLD..IT IS LIKE FIRE, AND WE JUST CANNOT KEEP IT IN CONTROL BURNING ALL THE TIME!!!! SOMETIMES YOU RUN OUT OF FIREWOOD, GAS, ELECTRICITY OR EVEN MATCH OR LIGHTER TO TURN IT ON….WHY DO WE IN MOST CASES RUN OUT OF FUEL OR STEAM WHEN IN LOVE????
THERE IS TWO FACES TO LOVE. THE HUMAN FACE WHICH IS PHYSICAL, AND THE SPIRITUAL FACE WHICH IS MENTAL. EITHER ONE CAN PROMOTE LOVE, BUT VERY DIFFICULT TO WORK OR SYNCHRONISE TOGETHER. ONE IS ALWAYS DOMINANT THAN THE OTHER WHICH IS DETERMINE BY THE LEVEL OR QUALITY OF PARTNERSHIP. WHICH ONE IS, IN YOU???? YOUR HUMAN SIDE OR SPIRITUAL SIDE???
THE SPIRITUAL FACE IS DRIVEN MENTALLY BY THE VIRTUES AND TENETS WE UPHOLD AND PRACTICE WHEN IN LOVE. YOUR EMOTIONS IS IN PLAY WHEN PROVOKED BY THE VICES AND EXCRESCENCES WHICH CANNOT BE AVOIDED BY NATURE, BUT CAN BE CONTROLLED. THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION TO ASK ONESELF IS;- WHY DO I ALLOW LOVE TO RUN WILD IN INSTANCES LOSING GRIP OF ONE`S VIRTUES AND OBLIGATIONS????

SJS: YES, WE ARE VERY CONSISTENT IN OUR INCONSISTENCIES: If there is one thing we are very good at and can be credited for as a true Sierra Leonean is; We always forget old bellyful for new one; and forget the friend that supported us yesterday for the new one we have found today. Monkey nor go ever lef in black hand. So, how do we expect or hope to achieve CHANGES in our LIVES if we are to make a difference in others???
SJS: This is the quagmire we have got ourselves as a nation into. When people do evil things to others and the nation, we praise them more, and when they do good things we hail them less. Our educational and social system is to be blamed for not promoting our heritage and history to keep the people and nation abreast and well informed about events and circumstances both good, bad, negative and positive. That is why we must embraced technology to promote communications in the dissemination of information for every consumption both young and old. How many ministers or other high profile individual in Sierra Leone is BLOGGING or CHATTING on line? OBAMA is now Chatting online and blogging being the President of the strongest country in the world…He has a personal page on even facebook…This is modern tenets…why can`t our own do the same?????
SJS: @Timothy: It is always wiser to restrict ourself to what we know and what is bothering our society, than trying to deal with others problems which is not to our benefit. Like going into unfamiliar grounds. We use other situations as an excuse in trying to shelve our own responsibilities. We know that there are many other problems all over the world… Read more, but what is our primary concern or objectives today in life? Is it to make some else richer, better or trying to make sure we solve our own problems?
Ismail Malycki Sylla
As to our consistent with inconsitensies we forget the saying Salone man never answers a question straight it is always someone elses fault always dem say never any thing to do with him even the mess we are in now is every one elses fault but ours

THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE
I WISH YOU WELL AND HOPE YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE TO THE CHANGE!!!!

Too often we under-estimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. — Dr. Felice Leonardo Buscaglia
